Ask

Mercy Housing has homes in more than 40 states, and a small but mighty team handled all of its marketing, PR, and lobbying. The organization needed one voice that could win over reporters, move lawmakers, inspire donors, and speak honestly to residents, and it had to hold up in a crisis.

Solution

I spent an inspiring three years as Mercy Housing's Marketing and Communications Manager. I wrote the press releases, annual reports and donor appeals, interviewed residents for their stories and ghostwrote for the CEO, which was a personal favorite. I landed coverage in Colorado Public Radio, Denverite, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Sacramento Bee.

I also published four thought-leadership pieces in print trade magazines, including engineering and single-family housing publications, subjects I'd never written about before. On Capitol Hill, I helped secure bipartisan support for the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act of 2019. When COVID-19 and historic California power outages hit, I was the editorial lead and strategist for crisis communications.
