Script editing and narrative development
Ask
Wyoming's Red Desert is a remarkable place worth protecting. Patagonia set out to tell its story through the people who love it most. Unfenced follows the Run the Red trail race and brings in the voices of a longtime local biologist, the race's organizer and ultrarunner Clare Gallagher. The footage was already shot. Patagonia needed a story that could balance several points of view and still show why the Red Desert matters on its own terms.
Solution
After the shoot, I was brought in to help shape the narrative. I edited the scripts so each voice added a different layer: a biologist's deep knowledge of the land, an organizer's push for conservation and a runner's wonder at a place that "feels like another world." The result is a 10-minute film that uses trail running to get people to care about protecting the desert, and it asks viewers to protect it for future generations without preaching.
